Hunter Education is the most important outdoor-skills training sportsmen and women can receive. These classes are mandatory for any new hunter seeking a hunting license. California Department of Fish and Wildlife's volunteer instructors train thousands of students to become safe, responsible and prepared hunters who will preserve California's hunting heritage. Volunteer instructors teach the principles of firearm safety, hunter ethics and sportsmanship. They inspire a new understanding of wildlife conservation and management, as well as encourage good hunter-landowner relations. These skills are the keys for a safe hunting future, and the reason why hunting accidents in California continue to be rare.
